6 Reasons Why I Haven't Read TWILIGHT... Yet

6. I don't like the cover. It reminds me of Snow White. Not that I have anything against Snow White. Wait. Actually... I do have a lot against Snow White. She's my least favorite Disney princess and I hate the way she sings.

5. It's too heavy. Literally. I almost checked it out from the library a few months ago when I was reading a bunch of YA books. But when I took it off the shelf, I was like: "Arms failing...not strong enough...must let go...before muscles snap..." I've read some tomes in my day (Norton's Anthology of English Literature, anyone?), but that was back when I was full of youthful vigor and still thought exercise was fun.

4. I'm not an avid reader of Young Adult books. Even when I was a young adult, you would most likely have found me in the general fiction section (or adult fiction if I was at the library). What can I say? I'm a sucker for big words no one ever uses in normal life.

3. So many books, so little time. According to Goodreads, I have 177 books "to-read". For me, that's about 2 years worth of reading. And the list is always growing. Maybe if I was stranded on a deserted island and the only book available was TWILIGHT? Yes. Maybe then.

2. Robert Pattinson. Here is a perfect reason why movies ruin books. Don't get me wrong... for the most part, I enjoy books made into films, but normally I like to read the book way before I ever see the movie. Because I know the book is going to be better. Plus, I'd like to imagine the characters on my own without the help of a young Hollywood starlet thank-you-very-much. So back to TWILIGHT. I think Robert Pattinson is fugly. He gives me the creeps and because his face is now plastered on everything (see coffee mug below) I just don't think I can read TWILIGHT without imagining him brooding and squinting at me through the pages.

And the number one reason I still haven't read TWILIGHT?

1. I just really don't like vampires. I think their pansies. I mean... come on... they're afraid of garlic and sunlight. Know what's really scary? Flesh-eating bacteria. Just saying...

I agree about reading the book before seeing a movie. I've seen Twilight twice and actually bought the book. But i have no desire to read it.

Haha...I totally get this. I read the book - and let me tell you, you're not missing anything. :)

I haven't read the book either. I'm not a fan of the super-humongoid, multi-billion dollar series books--Harry Potter? Nope. Eragon? Nuh-uh. Plus, I'm tired of vampires. Enough already.

I've only read the first one.

If you don't like vampires and don't care for YA, I wouldn't feel the pressure to read it. And Edward in the book is way better than the movie.

If you ever plan to read this, save it for a time when you have absolutely nothing better to do. And yeah, the book is very different than the movie.

I'm one of the few remaining people who hasn't read Twilight yet. I keep meaning to, but I lack the drive to actually do it. :-)

Valerie & Shannon, I'll join you and confess that I have never read TWILIGHT. I figure that my co-worker loves the book so much it counts enough for both of us. ;-)

Another reason not read: the writing is boring.

My nieces asked me to read it in order to settle an argument. So I did, then got annoyed b/c I did want to know how the whole saga ends, but I didn't want to read it. So the youngest walked me through the series in a half hour, which was enough time w/it.

I support you 100%. I feel the movie would be far more justifiable than the book. Somedays you need something mindless on the television. However, to waste precious reading hours/thought on Twilight is to spit on good literature. Not that I have strong feelings about it or anything. :)

Also, I too don't like how Snow White sings.

Valerie--A friend of mine lent her entire set of the Twilight books--up until then, I had no interest at all in them. I opened the first one up to see what all the fuss was about. My whole reading list is MG and YA (okay, and maybe some Stephen King...) so I felt that I should check out the phenomenon. It took me a while to not be bothered by the over-the-top writing, but I have to say that I got sucked in and read to the conclusion. And was happy I did. It was a very nice kind of escapism. So, there you go. I'm just as surprised as you are!!

I could not agree with you more!! I did a post a few weeks ago about the mind boggling Twilight phenomenon, which I still do not understand. When did someone decide that vampires were the best thing after sliced bread?!! I am trying to finish my novel by July and am glad to have these away from my reading list. Great, hilarious post and blog!!

This post just cracked me up...even though I'm an admitted Twilight fan, you have some very valid and hilarious points!

I agree with a lot of what you said. Although I read Anne Rice's work a while back, I'm not crazy about vamp lit. Seems to perpetuate the idea that girls secretly want guys to attack and bite them. A very retro idea, seems to me--almost Victorian.

Do girls and women still long to be conquered?
That said, there are some cool vamp characters--and when it's done well it IS all about that specific character. Plus, I can get into the idea of getting a dark pleasure out of being "bad".
I have not read Twilight, so I suppose I should form my final decision after I read it.
Anyway, good post! Lots of food for thought.

I have read twiglight and well let's just put it this way...a really bad vampire book. Granted there are some things in there that make u go huh? hmm? but there are other things that are really great like a book called Love Bites. Yes it is a romance but it is one of the best present day vampire books I have read (& i have read quite a lot). yes there is a romancy theme to it of course. But you can still get psat it cause the plot is good.

I don't know if you would be interested in it or not but it is Love Bites by Lynsay Sands. Really good.

I love you blog by the ay, really cool. :D

Great reasons! I came over here from Mohamed Mughal's blog. I have lots of reasons for not reading Twilight, but the top on is that I don't do vampires. I am also creeped out by the posters of that guy.

Very amusing post. I loved it.

Funny! I WISH I hadn't read Twilight. No, wait, I really wish I hadn't read Breaking Dawn. *shudders*

I may never be the same. Can they even make that one into a movie what with the placenta biting and all? Gross.

Oh dear! Placenta biting???? That's my new #7 reason for not wanting to read Twilight. That just sounds creepy and not in a good way.

I have read all of Twilight and part of New Moon and I will say this. The concept, the plot is awesome. How the story was written...not so much. I mean think about it a girl discovers a world of vampires and werewolves and the forever battle that they have had with each other, sounds like it would be awesome right. Well it just depends on the person who executed it and Stephnie Meyer did a blah job of it.

But if you want a "junk food" book as I call it then this is it. But otherwise, read classic vampire books, much better.
