A Most Curious Love Story

A special treat for you today and tomorrow, dear reader, unrelated to the genre-of-the-month.

A few weeks ago author Justin Kramon contacted me about reading and reviewing his debut novel Finny (which goes on sale today, by the way). I said heck yes! Because it sounded very much like a book I would enjoy. In return, he agreed to do an interview with me. So without further ado: today the review, tomorrow the interview. Regularly scheduled programming to resume on Friday.

FINNY
Justin Kramon

Goodreads: ...Meet Finny Short... an observant, defiant fourteen-year-old who can’t make sense of her family’s unusual habits: Her mother offers guidance appropriate for a forty-year-old socialite; her father quotes Nietzsche over pancakes. Finny figures she’s stuck with this lonely lot until she meets Earl Henckel, a boy who comes from an even stranger place than she does. Unhappy with Finny’s budding romance with Earl, her parents ship her off to Thorndon boarding school. But mischief follows Finny as she befriends New York heiress Judith Turngate, a girl whose charm belies a disquieting reckless streak.

Finny’s relationships with Earl and Judith open her up to dizzying possibilities of love and loss and propel her into a remarkable adventure spanning twenty years and two continents.

My Thoughts: Finny is a perfect summer read. It's quirky and fun, full of delightful and entertaining characters. It's charming, bittersweet at times, but tender and full of heart.

In a way, this book reminded me of When Harry Met Sally... a younger version. The story follows Finny and Earl as they weave in and out of each other's lives, falling in and out of love, never really finding each other at the right time... I love love story's like that. Sigh.

So check out the trailer, then check out the book. Both are well worth your time.

Valerie, thank you so much for this nice review. It really means a lot to me, and I'm very happy to be compared to a young Meg Ryan.

Jen, I know what it's like to have the overflowing bookshelf!

Lydia, thanks so much for your interest in the book. I hope it's a nice summer read for people, even though its author is too pale to go out very much in the summertime!

This book sounds like one I need in my classroom - the girls all love stories like this! Thanks for another great review, Valerie. I look forward to tomorrow's interview.

How's that MS coming? I'm dying to see it in my inbox! :-)

Justin- Thanks for stopping by! Also... I just compared you to the movie... you compared yourself to Meg Ryan, but thanks for doing that. So I didn't have to. :)

Bonnie- Yeah! *fist pump*

Shannon- There is some sex... just so you know. :) Also... Justin's interview rocks. It might just be the best one I've done so far... so you better be back tomorrow. As for the MS... patience, my dear, patience. ;) It's on its way... maybe 1 week? 1.5 weeks??
